Resources To Educate And Empower.

We offer reentry workshops at Middle River Regional Jail, Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail, and Page County Jail to help individuals understand the resources that are available in our community once they are released. Our community navigation specialist educates participants on how to apply for and navigate housing, employment, education, public benefits, healthcare, mental health, and recovery services. Participants develop a Transitional Action Plan and Wellness Plan where they establish personal recovery goals and develop plans for accessing services and managing their recovery. Our Street Sheet resource guide compiles community organizations and services in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.

One-On-One Peer Support For A Strong Reentry.

Our peer support program is designed for participants who have a substance use challenge and are facing homelessness or unstable housing situations. Our Strength In Peers team offers support during the difficult transition from incarceration to reintegration in the community. We meet participants while incarcerated, pick them up upon release, and support them to thrive in their recoveries in the community. Our peers support all recovery efforts and help participants to find shelter, apply for jobs, and obtain other necessary resources.

Our Workshops Offer Compassionate Support For Women.

Our Women’s Empowerment Group is a 7-week program available in Middle River Regional Jail. Participants work with professional peer support specialists in a group setting and discuss subjects like: self-esteem, trauma, body image, and substance use. Participants receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

We Understand Challenges; We’ve Been There.

The team at Strength In Peers is made of individuals with similar lived experiences to our participants. Our Peer Support model is effective because we don’t tell individuals what to do. Instead, we guide our participants through the tools, resources, and skills we’ve found useful in our own recoveries. Our professional development includes educational opportunities to advance our understanding of substance use, trauma, and mental health challenges so we can better support participants regardless of their chosen recovery path.
