Substance Use Recovery Tailored To Your Needs.

We offer substance use recovery services throughout Northwestern Virginia. Our programs are available at no charge for eligible participants struggling with substance use challenges. Flexible options and peer support from a team with similar lived experiences form the foundation of our supportive services. When you work with Strength In Peers, you can expect:

  • Peer support throughout your recovery journey.
  • Education about recovery options and available services.
  • Assistance navigating housing, employment, healthcare, and other community resources.
  • Assistance applying for Medicaid, public benefits and jobs.
  • Access to clinical behavioral health treatment services through one of our partners.

Back On Track Recovery Program:

This program provides comprehensive recovery services for individuals who seek to overcome substance use or co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges Services include peer support, counseling, tele-psychiatry, and case management services. Eligibility is limited to Harrisonburg and Rockingham County residents who are homeless or unstably housed (e.g. couch surfing, doubled up with family or friends, etc.). We can begin working with individuals who are coming out of incarceration up to 3 months prior to release.

Side by Side Recovery Program:

This program works with people who seek to overcome substance use and/or mental health challenges. It offers peers support, counseling, and tele-psychiatry. Eligibility is limited to Shenandoah and Page County residents who are low-income. We can begin working with individuals who are coming out of incarceration up to 3 months prior to release.

Pathways to Wellness Program:

This program helps participants get on a path to wellness with free and confidential rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing, free condoms, wellness workshops, peer support, help applying for jobs and public benefits, and connections to community services.

Peer Support Groups:

We offer several weekly peer-led support groups and workshops for individuals struggling with substance use, mental health, and trauma-related challenges. Groups are offered in-person at our Harrisonburg office and online via Zoom. Check out our calendar!

Youth Mentoring and Family Support:

We offer youth mentoring and family support to youth struggling with emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Our experienced and trained mentors discuss topics such as anxiety, grief, sadness, anger, and drug use.

Community Resource Center:

Our Community Resource Center helps anyone in the community connect to community services, apply for jobs and housing, and/or enroll in public benefits. Come use our computer lab with internet, printing, copying, scanning, and fax. We also offer rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing on Friday mornings.
